Why do people lie?
Like all human traits,Lies have been with us since humans existed..So why do the do it? The world hasany moral Templates & stories of what can befall a liar,if their found out..Yet it still happens
Personal Inadequacy
Most of the root psychology of lying on a personal basis,stems from.the fact,that some people don't like who they are or their circumstances,so they "reinvent" themselves to create a false picture of their past..This is particulary true of Movie Stars,& people in the entertainment industry,because the whole movie culture is illusion,lies become more acceptable & even mandatory,in some movie stars bio...
Much better to create an exotic past,that so say,someone waited on tables in an Iowa diner!.Fake names,fake deeds,fake personality are the norm there....
Lies on the personal level normally mean someone feels ashamed by their past,so they "cover up" by untruth,Its sad really,because if someone came from very humble origins,and have raised themselves up,Its more to be admired than anything,but try telling that to the liar,They have become so paranoid about their past,nothing will change their mind..
Anna Anderson
Anna Anderson spent her whole live telling everyone,she was in fact, the Grand Dutches Anastasia ,youngest daughter of Tzar Nicholas The Second,& last Tzar of Russia.Anderson claimed she had escaped death,in which her whole "supposed" family were murdered by the Bolsheviks,with the help of a sympathetic guard whom she later married,She even managed to mostly convince,so of the late Tzar's relations that she was in fact genuine,She must have studied her supposed character well,as she was able to give intimate details of life at the old Russian Court..Wrong! said people who knew Anastasia,& research showed at the time ,she was in fact,the daughter of a Polish Railroad worker,& had been in a mental institution prior to her "Reincarnation" as Grand Dutches Anastasia..Anna Anderson died,in the Us,but two things happened to prove her a liar..One: DNA: This showed she could never have been related to the Russian Royal Family & was in fact, the daughter of the aforementioned Railroad Worker.Two:The bodies of ALL the Russian Royal Family inc Anastasia were found in a pit,in the forest near Ekaterinburg,after the Soviet Union collapsed,They were taken and reinterred in St Petersburg later,But whether by mental illness or just plain fantasy..Anna Anderson was a fake..
Conan Doyle & The "Faeries"
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,the author of the Sherlock Holmes books was the victim of an elaborate "hoax" at the end of the First World war,mainly a schoolgirl "prank" Conan Doyle was sent two pictures of a girl surrounded by "Fairies" which he decided,in true Sherlock Holmes fashion,to investigate.After looking deep into the issue,talking to an making notes,with the girl concerned,he was convinced that her story was true,& that there were in fact "Fairies" in this mortal world! He died believing so!..But near the end of her life in her 80's the girl concerned, "owned up" that the photos were "Doctored" to create the illusion of fairies dancing around her,Not so much a "lie" as an elaborate (for the time) prank..Holmes would have "frowned" on the gullibility of his Author😄
Slanderous Lies & Criminal Lies
Slandering anyone is a serious offense,particularly where the victim is in the public eye or their livelihood depends on public popularity,"Publish & Be Damned!" The famous Duke Of Wellington"once told a prostitute who threatened to go to the newspapers,
and "expose" their relationship..! But today,because of the increased pressure to find news,mainly about famous people,Newspapers at times publish,without doing proper background research,Its proved a very financially heavy mistake.
There have been many instances of so called "famous people" who have been subjected to this type of "lie"mainly to gain money by the story creator..Spite,or breakdown of a relationship can play a part in this,But it must be said,Sometimes there is truth in the ,allegations we're here to talk about "Lies" Motives can play a huge part in the actions..
Criminality,demands that someone who is being sought for wrong doing will lie to conceal their background & evidence that may compromise their new "hidden" Identity Again cases abound in these matters,
Its rare that they are not 'found out" eventually,mostly by someone close to them finding out their "true" past!
Instutionalised Lying
It is a sad fact that in today's era,Govts & other instutions will "lie"" to stop certain stories becoming public,While I caution here,IF..it is a matter of national security in ANY country,then its understandable why its nessessary,Not everything can be made public..It will only serve to compromise the Country & its people.
However there are areas where lies are told just to save face,to stifle embarrassment,to distract from.truth,Its these areas,that modern Govts seem to "excel" in.Semantics,political speak are used.."Spin" "Post Truth" are "psychobabble words to cover up what it really is..Lies..! There are some areas that are understandable,Mental Illness ect,where lies happen,but thats illness and totally different But we end on. a very clear point..If we tell the truth,there is no need to have a good memory to always maintain the lie..Once its told.it has to be forever kept..or credibility goes..Truth is a clear conscience!

Epilogue:I once knew a guy who "perjured" himself" in court,He got 6 months jail for contempt if Court..When he got out..People anywhere could point at him and shout "LIAR" even in front of many people.The guy couldn't do or say anything,because he was a "convicted" Liar! 😄
