Cristiano Ronaldo is one of a number of senior Manchester United players who have gone to the board and asked for help in the form of new signings.

The team's start to the new Premier League season has been a source of great concern and players think the club hierarchy haven't acted well during the transfer window.

Under new coach Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils have lost their opening two games of the season, at home to Brighton (2-1) and away to Brentford(4-0). With alarm bells ringing, the squad are as aware as anyone that there are just two weeks left until the transfer window closes.

The group of senior players who have gone to the board is believed to include RonaldoBruno FernandesHarry MaguireLuke Shaw and Marcus Rashford. They feel the club have lacked ambition this summer and have failed to adequately replace the players who have left.

Manchester United have lost players, but haven't signed

This summer, United have seen five first-team players depart for pastures new - Paul PogbaJesse LingardNemanja MaticJuan Mata and Edinson Cavani - but there have just been three major arrivals, only two of which required a transfer fee.

There is a widespread belief that United badly need not just bodies but quality, particularly in the middle of the park. Their pursuits of Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot have been public but so far unsuccessful.

However, it is understood that the players have not turned on Ten Hagdespite his disastrous start to life in charge of United. There is a positive working relationship behind the scenes and most of the squad are on board with what he's doing.

What's more, the players believe the Dutchman is not being backed by the board and understand that the situation is not fair on him either.

It will be interesting to see how the board respond, with the players now joining the fans in voicing their concerns.

August isn't over, nor is United's season, but something at the club needs to change, and fast.
