Have you ever been embarrassed while traveling abroad? Well am a victim, it happened to me when I traveled to UAE specifically Dubai.

It was my first time boarding a plane let alone getting out of Africa.

After a 5 hour flight, I finally landed in the land of my dreams, though it seemed a short time coz I love travelling esp long distances, whether it be on road or air but not sea.

Any way since I had a friend of mine whom we had traveled together in the same flight and was walking too fast way ahead of me, I tried to catch up with him as we head to the immigration trying not to bump into people since am a thousand miles away from home I had to watch my steps lest I stepped on someone's foot and get deported back home before I get sun burned with jua ya majuu.

Anyway as I catched up with my friend I felt stepping on something cold, sema kuwa shocked the sole of my new sneakers, which I had bought recently a day before traveling decided it had done it's purpose and it was it's time to leave me, it had separated with the upper part and it was lying on the floor behind me, I literally froze, I tried to call my friend to wait for me as I pick up my sole but words failed to come out.

One Pakistani guy called me " Bhai, you leave your "foot" behind( insert a strong Urdu/English accent). I felt vodka leaving my head and telling me "you are alone in this, don't blame me" talking of liquor served on flight, KQ are very generous, hawajifungi like other flights, pewa until you say stop‚.

Back to my sole, I gathered courage and picked it up, this time my friend had disappeared into the large crowd, I heard some two Philipino ladies giggling and saying " sorry Po" in my head I abused them a thousand words. I managed to reach the passport area holding my sole, I could feel people staring back at me as the immigration officer telling me " my friend oben your eyes wide, oben oben" as I stared through that ka thing for identification. At last I reached baggage claim waiting for my suitcase meanwhile my left shoe that was detached from the sole was already disfigured, you couldn't tell it was a shoe that was bought with a hard earned money, I tried to reached my friend by calling his number, I remembered I could not contact him because am still using safaricom and worse of it all my phone had frozen, sijui it was shocked to be in a new environment or it didn't want to be associated with me. All I could do was to wait for my suitcase so that I could get my open shoes and ditch my embarrassment of a sneakers.
