What To Avoid When Driving A Manual Transmission Car

If you have a manual transmission car there are certain things that you should watch out for, so that you can increase its life span and save yourself some money. To preserve your car’s gear box and clutch you will have to learn some things and do them differently from the way you have been doing them.

Here are some things you should never do while driving a manual transmission car:

1.Rest your hand on the gear stick – When you are driving and changing gears many people tend to rest their arms on the gear stick. When a car is engaged in a gear and you continue resting your hand it can cause you to apply pressure to the selector fork and other parts.

If you continue with this habit, you speed the wear out of the gear box, which later causes some noise and later possible failure to select some gears.

2.Rest your foot on the clutch pedal – Many long distances drivers fall in the trap of resting their foot on the clutch pedal without knowing that it causes some harm to the gear box.

Resting your foot on the clutch releases the bearing to be in contact with the clutch and creating friction when it doesn’t need to be and after sometime it causes the failure of the clutch and which is expensive to repair.

3.Coast in neutral to save fuel – Drives actually think that driving in neutral in down hills helps them save some fuel and which is not true. It’s very unsafe because you don’t have the full control of the cars when it’s in neutral.

It shows that you can’t even accelerate if you need so and you also lose engine braking, and this causes the car to overheat the brakes you are driving down steep slopes or hills.

4.Never use an incorrect gear when gaining speed – The higher gear that you change your car into lets it move in a faster speed. When you are increasing your cars, speed make sure that you follow you through the gears correctly. Using the heavy gears when driving fast actually kills your car transmission slowly.

5.Never release the clutch to soon – Releasing your car’s clutch to soon makes it to jerk and it puts excessive pressure on the engine and transmission. This actually makes the clutch to overheat and it get damaged over time. This mistake is commonly made by first time drivers on manual cars.
