After seeing Viswasam, the first thing that comes to my mind when I leave the theater is 'Thankfully Ajit has finished working with director Shiva'. Because the end of this collaboration means no more Ajith stars who rely on formulas, patterns and clichés. Viswasam is not a bad movie. It's a long, boring story that we've seen many times.
For example, Jagpatti Babu, who plays the villain in the movie, has played the same role in many movies. He is a businessman who wants to eliminate his enemies, and he has no hesitation when he has to kill an innocent girl to achieve that goal. Viswasam is about a city girl who falls in love with a village man. However, the creator took her over an hour to prove these simple facts. Even after the intermission, there are songs that slow the pace of the film without adding value. As you prepare for conflict, another distracting song is offered to you.
Siva turned a simple family her entertainer into a superstar her spectacle. The hype only hinders the movie. The first clashes between the antagonist and the protagonist come so late in the film that it feels too little, too late.
A movie starring Vivek, Kovai Sarala, Yogi Babu and Robo Shankar should be much more interesting than Viswasam. Nayanthara as Niranjana is fierce and independent, but her choices don't always lead to happiness and her personality remains superficial. In her Vivegam she suffers the same fate as Akshara Haasan - she may have been an interesting character, but her character never gets deep.
Viswasam is also a testament to why soap operas don't always make successful movies. All this drama could have done better in a TV series, but a movie like Viswasam should have been the real thing. Unfortunately Ajith Star is different.
Masala films have a unique quality not found in other genres. They give you instant gratification, especially if you have one of the biggest stars, see for example how Ajith Kumar is featured in Viswasam. In a village called Koduvilarpatti, two communities verbally discuss his Tiruvizha. Silence descends on the screen when someone mentions the name Thoooku Durai.
D Imman's score spreads out and the camera pans to the actor's feet. The director refuses to show a much needed face in StarCraft. Then comes the reverse shot of Thoooku Durai greeting the villagers.He fights again. Now, both on and off screen, crowds are restless. Ajith makes an entry and casually says "vanakam". I really want to explain the next few scenes, but whistle and whistle refused to be silent for 15 minutes!
The idea would have been to make the audience feel a sweet moment of triumph, but that would only ruin the palette of those who enjoy a good commercial movie.
