The Embers

The Embers

Written by: Nathaniel Williams

Down on all fours,

rolling down the petrified carbon;

While we rumbled past,

while burning gas,

While rousting the dust to rise with the cigarette

smoke tossed and toiled as I took another drag

My fag that soon caught up and coiled

 boiling in the broiled tempest,

the thick tempered oiled air,

To setting a fire aflare

I was barely aware

as I stared

Because it was unfair

just how fair your sun bleached hair

glinted in the light of the embers

of my fallen

coffin nail.
