I have some thoughts to share about Sachin Tendulkar's autobiography, Playing It My Way. I would like to speak briefly.
Few books have excited me as much as this one. I pre-ordered it the day it was announced and waited impatiently for weeks for it to arrive.
As you probably know, Sachin Tendulkar is one of India's greatest sportsmen and he is one of the best cricketers to play the game. Sachin wasn't just an Indian cricketer. It was the feelings, hopes and beliefs of countless cricket fans. It is thanks to him that I began to actively watch cricket. he was one of my greatest heroes. So my expectations for this book were tremendous. In his own words, I want to know about the life of my favorite cricketer! It was so inspiring. But in the end I was disappointed. Strong and difficult to challenge.
I saw the many reviews for this book and was surprised to find it so highly praised everywhere. However, my experience with this was very different from that of the majority.
In his first 3-4 chapters, Sachin lovingly recounts his childhood and describes how his love of cricket began, but this book covers his all-important game. turned out to be a kind of summary of. I enjoyed the portrayal of Sachin as a young man, his relationship with his trainer, Ramakant Achrekar, and the description of his struggles at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai. However, the moment the story switches to Sachin's international career, we realize that these chapters were not written by Sachin, but by the book's co-author, Boria Majumudar (a veteran sports historian). So we skipped chapter by chapter some of Sachin's memorable hits and milestones. But none delve into what Sachin went through to get to them. They read like a short essay from his performance. Unfortunately, such chapters are rare in books. I started to lose patience and became frustrated because a cursory glance at key events didn't give me any additional insight. It's like an extended Wikipedia entry on the career of . The chapter on winning the 2011 World Cup also reads almost like an essay, with no added value beyond the ordinary. I will summarize what Sachin said in this chapter. Overall, Sachin Tendulkar's Playing It My Way was a huge disappointment for me. I fell in love with the game because of him and expected much more than what I had read in the book.A better experience for the reader than offering what the reader already knows very well. I would like you to think more about this.
I'm sorry, but I truly feel that this book was published hastily to capitalize on Sachin's immense popularity. The book was published in late 2013, just one year after Sachin retired. The editors wanted to make the most of this memory, which left a lasting impression on countless Indians. So the admiration for the book became automatic. It was like saying anything negative about it was blasphemous. It was Sachin after all.
But it's just reclaiming the 'Anjali' chapter from 'Playing It My Way'. Other than that, the rest of the book is forgettable. That doesn't do the legendary man justice. If you really want to get a decent look at Sachin's life, read Sachin:
The Story of the World's Greatest Batsman" by Guru Ezekiel. It does a much better job of introducing Sachin's life than Sachin himself.
I was looking forward to a nice straight drive from Sachin Tendulkar during a live game, but got a blurry rendition of a shot from an old YouTube video I'd seen a few times before.
