Kumarakom one of Best Place for Spend Holidays

Kumarakom is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.  Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a popular bird sanctuary visited by many migratory birds.  Vembanad Lake, the largest lake in Kerala, is home to a number of marine and freshwater fishes, including carp (pearl also known as Etroplus suratensis), shrimp (Metapenius dobzoni) and Poovalan shrimp.  The bird sanctuary, spread over 14 acres (57,000 m²), was established as a result of government conservation efforts.  It is a major tourist destination.

 

  Kumarakom enjoys a mild climate throughout the year.  It has a balanced tropical climate with two monsoons, one in the southwest and one in the northeast.  Sometimes heavy rain and sometimes summer rain.

 

  Fishing is mainly done using small boats and nets (gear).  The main catches are black clam (Villorita cyprinoides), carp (pearl also known as atroplus suratensis), and shrimp (Metapenius dobzoni).

 

  Kumarakom has a wide variety of houseboats and is known around the world for its houseboat experience.  These days they are used only for tourists.  People use a special boat called a mooring boat for fishing or transporting goods.  Apart from these, there are some very special boats participating in the Onam boat race, including the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, the Kochu-Odi boat, the Odi-boat, the Iruttukuthi boat, the Churulan boat and the Chundan.  Boat.  The most famous boat race in Kerala).  KBC (Kumarakom Boat Club) and KTBC (Kumarakom Town Boat Club) are the two major boat clubs that have won the Nehru Trophy several times.  Kumarakom will be participating in the boat race during the first two weeks of August.  This is the best time to visit Kumarakom as tourists can see the experiments (practice) of snake boats and other boats like a festival in Kumarakom.  More than a thousand crew members in boats of various sizes and shapes will take part in the event.  Snake boats take part in this race, but darkness is important here for about fifty oarsmen.  The boat race takes place on a large canal in the middle near the Kumarakom market.  Winners will be presented with the Sreenarayana Ever Rolling Trophy at the end of the day.  There is a private sailing club on the shores of Vembanad Lake in Kumarakom
