GHOST OF THE PAST part1

Growing up, I thought my dad had children outside other than us, since I use to hear him ask people, saying 'Awon omo mi nko' how are my children?

My little mind couldn't process it well, so I had to ask him one day that how many siblings do I have?, He was at first confused, then I elaborated, reminding him of how he use to ask after his children from other people. My dad couldn't control his laughter, but he later went on to explain better that it's just an informal way of greeting in Yoruba tribal language in Nigeria, it has always been like that in Yoruba land, as Yoruba people has a common believe that the person who bore a child is not the only parent to the child, but every other grown ups in the community. It was then I understood better.

And just very recent, I found my self saying the same' aw on omo mi nko?'. Greeting a particular married woman! It just slipped out of my mouth before I realized what I had just said.

Am grown!!
