Bioengineering, also known as biomedical engineering, is a field of engineering that applies engineering principles and techniques to the medical field. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to improve healthcare diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy. Bioengineers work with doctors, therapists, and researchers to develop systems and products such as artificial organs, prostheses, medical instruments, medical imaging systems, and health management and care delivery systems. Bioengineers also work on developing new drugs and treatments for diseases, as well as researching ways to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.
